5 Tips for Pinterest Event Marketing

Increasingly, over the past few years, social media marketing for events has proven to be an effective and important way to promote event awareness. However, with so many platforms out there, it can be hard to get a grasp of how to use each one effectively. For this article, I thought I would focus on the untapped visual discovery tool, Pinterest.

Pinterest is fast becoming a place, not just for inspiration, but as a powerful communication tool to help market to consumers. With over 70 million active monthly users, it is a great platform to consider when developing your event marketing strategy.

Tip: Pinterest attracts high-income, female-dominated audience, aged between 18-29 (27%) and 30-49 (24%).

Here’s some of our top 5 tips on Pinterest event marketing.

1. Crowdsource

Create a collaborator board and invite attendees to contribute. This will give you an instant photo album of the event which you can use as promotion. Create some more buzz around it by awarding prizes to the most repinned photos.

Another fresh approach to consider is to crowdsource for event ideas. Ask your audience to pin their ideas for events, and see if you can incorporate the best into your event.

2. Share Valuable Content

Pinterest is great for content marketing. One of the top motivations for attending business events is the valuable knowledge and insights that attendees gain. Sharing some of the useful content from your speakers and keynote presentations from previous years, will give people a feel for what to expect at your next event.

Tip: Add a link to a great Slideshare presentation in the pin description

3. Create Community Boards

Give event attendees and speakers another way to network, and grow your own network by creating community boards where attendees and speakers can develop the content for you.

Tip: PinMail can help you identify attendees who use Pinterest to target your outreach.

4. Give your Suppliers Recognition

The venue, catering, photographer and artists all make up your event. Make sure to give them a shout out on Pinterest by pinning their services. Not only will this help you build your supplier relationships, but it will encourage more shares to their community, and potentially widen your own fan base.

5. Create Private Boards for Press

Give bloggers and reporters exclusive content, such a big announcements, before the event using private Pinterest boards. This will encourage them to report on it, and share with their networks, as they will have the inside scoop.

Those are just a few ideas as to what you could do with Pinterest to market your event. If you have any that you want to share, then please do below!
