How to Colour Theme Your Event

To make a real impact with your event, think colour. By synergising the colour scheme, flowers, lighting and décor, you can make an impression on your guests. How do you choose the right colour theme for your event? The best place to start is by asking yourself some questions…

What do you want people to feel?

Do you want them to feel excited? Perhaps you want to evoke a feeling of nostalgia? Different colours will dramatically affect emotions, something you can tap into when you want to induce certain moods. Are you aware of current trends in colour theming?

Make a big cup of coffee, grab a few biscuits, and treat yourself to some time browsing through posts in your favourite industry magazines and blogs. Are you being practical?

White roses might look fabulous, but there are other flowers that look beautiful and would work equally well with your theme. And while we’re talking about flowers, remember that choosing blooms that are in season will help keep costs manageable.

What does your client want?

Put together a selection of ideas and schedule a meeting with your client. This is an important element of their event, so most clients will want to be aware of the options, any colour sensitivities in relation to the venue, and ultimately, to select their preferred theme.

Have you chosen two or three colours?

If so, great! If you are tempted to chose more, just step back and repeat, “Less is more”! Unless you’re going for a rainbow theme, try not to get carried away.
